It has been a question asked many times by Leeds United fans, will Marcelo Bielsa stay at Leeds United if they fail to go up to the Premier League? The answer, yes… But it’s more complicated than that.
According to Marcelo’s brother, Rafael Bielsa, the Argentine will stay with Leeds United regardless of whether their promotion bid is successful.
The target set at the beginning of the season was for the Whites was to at least reach the playoffs and with a top 4 finish now guaranteed, Bielsa has achieved those targets.
At the start of the season, there were several people claiming to have connections with Bielsa claiming that if Leeds do not get promotion, he will leave the club, however, it doesn’t seem as though that is the case.
At the start of the season, this may have been the Argentine’s intentions, however, it seems as though Bielsa has settled well with Leeds United and developed a connection with the club similar to that in which he established at Newell’s who have since named their stadium after him.
El Loco is often spotted and photographed in Costa Coffee, or walking around Wetherby in his Leeds United gear, even off-duty, showing that Marcelo wears the historic badge with pride and has developed a relationship with the club and the fans more than anyone could’ve anticipated.
Many Leeds fans will hope that the question of whether Bielsa will stay at Leeds if they fail to get promotion is a question that will never have to be answered, but if Leeds do manage to slip out of the automatic spots, it should give Leeds United fans some reassurance that it very well may not be the end of El Loco’s reign at Elland Road.
