A deal between Saiz and La Liga side Getafe has been negotiated and accepted, and the Spaniard is set to fly over to Spain for his medical ahead of his shock move away from Elland Road.
Saiz had been unsettled ever since Leeds United’s coach, Marcelo Bielsa, had dropped him following a dip in form. As of late, Saiz has managed to fight his way back into the first team, featuring against struggling Championship side QPR. With Izzy Brown set for return, and Pablo Hernandez finding the form of his career, it seems as though Saiz would rather fly back to his home country, rather than fight for his place in the team in England.
Negotiations have been on going throughout the past few days, however pen has finally been put to paper and Saiz is set to leave Leeds United on a Loan deal until the summer, where it is likely Getafe will activate a clause in the contract making the deal permanent.
This means that the Spaniard will miss Leeds United’s game against Bolton this Saturday, and probably never feature for the Whites again this season. The move will officially go through on January 1st.
Saiz has told Leeds United that he wants to ”quit English football”, leading to Leeds United coach Marcelo Bielsa approving of the departure. Saiz signed for Leeds United for £3m from Spanish second division side Huesca in 2017, and is now valued by the club at £6m, after showing flashes of brilliance throughout this season and last, but seemingly losing form throughout the winter.
Samu has played a total of 58 games for Leeds United, scoring just 10 goals. However his last goal came 15 months ago under young coach Thomas Christiansen, who has since been relieved of his duties at Leeds United.
